How teams qualify for the 2026 WNBA Playoffs
Eight teams qualify, regardless of conference. The postseason field is drawn from the best records across the entire league, rather than reserving four spots for the Eastern Conference and four for the Western Conference. With 15 teams in the league in 2026, seven will miss the postseason.

A Semifinal requires three wins. The higher seed hosts Games 1 and 2, the lower seed hosts Games 3 and 4, and the higher seed hosts Game 5. Games 4 and 5 are played only if the series has not already been decided.
This is a different travel pattern from the alternating First Round. Fans planning for a possible Game 5 should wait until the series remains alive and the league confirms the final date and time.
In practical terms, a 3-0 Semifinal ends after Game 3. A 3-1 result ends after Game 4, and only a series tied 2-2 reaches the higher seed's Game 5. The published schedule may reserve all five possibilities, but the result determines how many are actually played.
